Nigerian Army Training Allowance For Ssc/Dssc Cadets

The Nigerian Army offers two key programs for aspiring officers: the Short Service Commission (SSC) and the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC). Both pathways are designed to train individuals who hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent to serve in specialized and leadership roles within the army. While these programs offer a shorter training period compared to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), cadets in the SSC/DSSC also receive training allowances.

The training allowance for SSC/DSSC cadets typically ranges between ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 monthly during their 6 to 9-month training period. This allowance is meant to provide financial support for cadets, helping them cover personal expenses such as transportation, communication, and other minor costs. It serves as an essential complement to the benefits they receive, which include accommodation, feeding, medical care, uniforms, and training materials provided by the Nigerian Army.

The SSC/DSSC programs attract professionals and graduates from various disciplines who are interested in joining the Nigerian Army in specialized fields such as engineering, medicine, law, and logistics. The financial support provided through the training allowance helps ease the transition from civilian life to military service, allowing cadets to focus fully on their military and leadership development. Upon successful completion of the program, cadets are commissioned as officers in the Nigerian Army, with promising career prospects and further financial benefits.
