How To Register For Jamb Online

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is responsible for administering the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Nigeria. Every year, millions of candidates seek to secure admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education by sitting for this highly competitive exam. The JAMB registration process is one of the most important steps for any Nigerian student aspiring to pursue higher education, and in 2024, the board has made it more convenient with the online registration process.

In this blog post, we'll walk you through the step-by-step process for registering for JAMB online, providing tips on how to avoid mistakes and ensure a smooth registration experience.

Step 1: Create Your JAMB Profile

Before starting the registration process, you need to create a JAMB profile. This profile will be used to manage your details, including your choice of institution, preferred course of study, and your exam result when it is released.

Here’s how to create your profile:

  1. Visit the JAMB e-Facility portal: Go to JAMB e-Facility and select "Create e-Facility Account/Login."

  2. Provide Your Details: You will be asked to provide your email address and phone number. Make sure to use an active email address, as JAMB will send important updates to this address.

  3. Verify Your Email: After submitting your details, check your email inbox for a verification link. Once you verify the link, you’ll be directed back to the JAMB portal to complete your profile setup.

  4. Complete Your Profile: Fill out your personal details, such as your name, date of birth, state of origin, and gender. You’ll also be required to upload a recent passport-sized photograph.

  5. Save Your Profile Information: After completing the form, ensure all your information is correct and save the details. Your JAMB profile is now created, and you’ll need it to complete your registration.

Step 2: Obtain Your National Identification Number (NIN)

Starting from 2020, JAMB made it mandatory to provide a National Identification Number (NIN) during the registration process. The NIN helps in verifying your identity and serves as a requirement for registration. If you don’t have a NIN, you must enroll for one at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) office nearest to you.

Here’s how to obtain your NIN:

  1. Visit a NIMC Enrollment Center: Find the nearest NIMC enrollment center by visiting their official website or using their locator app.

  2. Submit Required Documents: At the center, you’ll need to present documents such as your birth certificate, state of origin certificate, and passport photograph. Your biometrics will also be captured.

  3. Obtain Your NIN: After completing the enrollment, your NIN will be assigned to you. You can retrieve your NIN by dialing *346# from the phone number used during registration, or you can receive it directly from the NIMC office.

Step 3: Purchase Your JAMB e-PIN

After creating your JAMB profile and obtaining your NIN, the next step is to purchase your JAMB e-PIN. This e-PIN is your access code for completing the JAMB registration. There are several ways to purchase it:

1. Online Payment (via JAMB portal):

  • Log into your JAMB profile on the JAMB e-Facility portal.

  • Select "Purchase e-PIN" and follow the payment instructions.

  • Pay using your ATM card (VISA, MasterCard, Verve).

  • After payment, your e-PIN will be sent to your email and phone number.

2. Banks:

  • Visit any participating bank, such as First Bank, Access Bank, FCMB, or Zenith Bank, and request to purchase the JAMB e-PIN.

  • Provide your NIN and make the required payment.

  • You will receive the e-PIN after the transaction is completed.

3. USSD Code:

  • Dial 5656*55019# on your mobile phone.

  • Provide your NIN and follow the prompts to complete the transaction.

  • The e-PIN will be sent to you via SMS.

4. Mobile Money Operators (MMOs):

  • You can purchase the JAMB e-PIN through mobile payment services like PocketMoni, PAGA, or Unified Payments.

Once you have your e-PIN, you’re ready to move on to the next step.

Step 4: Visit an Accredited CBT Center

To complete your registration, you must visit an accredited JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) center. JAMB has published a list of accredited CBT centers on their official website. Ensure you visit a JAMB-approved center to avoid fraudulent operators.

Here’s how to proceed at the CBT center:

  1. Provide Your NIN and e-PIN: When you arrive at the CBT center, provide your NIN and e-PIN to the registration officer. They will use this information to access your profile and begin the registration process.

  2. Submit Your Biometric Data: You will be required to provide biometric data, including your fingerprints and photograph. This step is crucial for exam security, as JAMB uses this data for identity verification during the UTME.

  3. Choose Your Institutions and Courses:

    • You’ll be asked to select your first choice and second choice of institutions, which can include universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovative enterprise institutions.

    • You will also choose your preferred course of study. Ensure that your course aligns with your O’Level results and your intended institution's admission requirements.

  4. Capture and Review Your Information: The registration officer will capture your details, including your name, address, phone number, and email. Afterward, you’ll be allowed to review your information before final submission.

  5. Collect Your JAMB Registration Slip: After your data is successfully submitted, you’ll receive your JAMB registration slip. This slip contains your registration number, examination details (such as the date and center), and other important information.

Step 5: Upload Your O'Level Results

During the registration process, you must also upload your O'Level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) results. If you are awaiting results, you can indicate this during registration, but you must upload the results once they are released. Failure to upload your results will disqualify you from gaining admission.

Here’s how to upload your results:

  1. Log into the JAMB e-Facility portal.

  2. Navigate to the Upload Results section.

  3. Select the type of result (WAEC, NECO, etc.) and upload the result.

  4. Save and confirm that the results have been successfully uploaded.

Step 6: Prepare for the UTME

Now that you’ve successfully registered, the next step is preparing for the UTME. Here are a few tips to help you get ready:

  • Study Using the JAMB Syllabus: The JAMB syllabus outlines the topics you need to cover for each subject. Make sure you review it carefully and base your study plan on the topics listed.

  • Practice with JAMB Past Questions: JAMB often repeats questions from past exams, so practicing with past questions can give you a head start. You can purchase JAMB past questions from bookshops or use apps that simulate the CBT environment.

  • Take Mock Exams: JAMB offers an optional mock examination to help candidates familiarize themselves with the CBT format. It’s advisable to take the mock exam, especially if this is your first time sitting for JAMB.

Conclusion

Registering for JAMB online is a straightforward process if you follow the steps carefully. By creating your JAMB profile, obtaining your NIN, purchasing the e-PIN, and completing your registration at an accredited CBT center, you’ll be well on your way to sitting for the UTME. Ensure you avoid common mistakes, such as using an invalid NIN or visiting unaccredited centers, and double-check all your details before submission.

Remember, preparation is key to success in the UTME. Utilize available resources like the JAMB syllabus and past questions to boost your chances of scoring high and securing admission into your desired institution.

Good luck!
