Rivers State University holds the distinction of being Nigeria's first Technological University and the first state-owned State University in the Niger Delta region. Guided by the motto "Excellence and Creativity," the university boasts a robust faculty comprising approximately 1,800 staff members and a diverse student community exceeding 28,000. History of the Rivers State University
The early days of Rivers State University can be traced back to 1972 when it was founded as the College of Science and Technology. Achieving autonomy in 1980, it transitioned from the College of Science and Technology to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. In March 2017, the institution was renamed, to Rivers State University. It holds the distinctive accreditation as the sole university in Nigeria authorized to confer degrees in Marine Engineering.
