The University of Port Harcourt, popularly known as UNIPORT, stands as one of Nigeria's most sought-after universities. It was established in 1975 and has grown to accommodate a student population exceeding 45,000. Recognized as a second-generation university, The institution started as a University College and was recognized as a university in 1977.
The institution has produced various alumni in various sectors of the economy, at home and abroad.
In 2015, Times Higher Education ranked the University of Port Harcourt as the top university in Nigeria and the sixth in Africa.
