  • Detective Superintendent (DS): Typically for individuals with qualifications such as a National Diploma (ND) or National Certificate in Education (NCE). Personnel at this rank have experience and play a leadership role within investigative teams.
  • Deputy Detective Superintendent (DDS): This is a step up from DS and involves greater responsibility in investigations and leading larger units.
  • Chief Detective Superintendent (CDS): Often held by individuals with a university degree, the CDS rank signifies a senior leadership role within the commission.

3. Senior Ranks:

  • Assistant Director (AD): At this rank, personnel manage several departments or divisions, guiding investigations at a macro level.
  • Deputy Director (DD): DDs are responsible for overseeing multiple divisions and are involved in high-level decision-making.
  • Director: This is one of the highest ranks in the EFCC, with responsibilities over entire directorates or regional offices.

The highest position in the EFCC is the Chairman, who leads the entire commission. The EFCC chairperson is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Over the years, the agency has been led by notable figures such as Nuhu Ribadu, Ibrahim Lamorde, Farida Waziri, and Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Symbols and Insignia

The EFCC uses specific insignia to denote ranks, similar to those used in other Nigerian paramilitary agencies. Junior officers have simpler insignia, while higher-ranked officers wear badges with additional bars, stars, or symbols to reflect their rank and level of authority.

  • Detective Superintendent (DS): ₦150,000
  • Chief Detective Superintendent (CDS): ₦170,000
  • Assistant Director (AD): ₦190,000
  • Deputy Director (DD): ₦250,000
  • Director: ₦300,000

In addition to their base salary, EFCC officers receive allowances such as duty, housing, and risk allowances. These benefits ensure that officers are compensated for the demanding nature of their work.

Divisions within the EFCC

The EFCC operates through various divisions that focus on different aspects of financial crime prevention and enforcement. These include:

  • Administrative Division: Manages the day-to-day operations of the EFCC.
