CHAPTER 1

Today was indeed going to be the best day of my life, and as well the most stressful day. What am I even saying; Okay, maybe I should start by introducing myself. I am Noye Okoro, I hail from the south eastern part of Nigeria, and I am about to tell you a story of the worst moment of my life; No, it was actually the luckiest moment of my life.

Now it was a really pleasant morning, welcomed by an angry sun, probably wasn’t ready to get back to work. I woke up excited because finally I am going to a university; located in Bayelsa State, after four years of waiting to be admitted.

Quickly I picked up my phone and called Peter “Hello Pete I want to take my bath and start coming oh, how will I meet you" ? I said in excitement, “Okay oh, when you get to the school gate call me; I will come pick you up" he responded in a rush, perhaps he is hurrying to a class or something.

You see, Peter is a friend I met online; in one of the aspirants group of Federal University Otuoke, and since we have been chatting, he has really been helpful in getting me informations, regarding resumption of newly admitted students like me. So, I had drawn close to him, hence, we have become fond of each other, no day passes that we don’t get to talk, he is a very wonderful personality.

Hours later, I was all dressed up; ready to embark on the journey to Bayelsa State, as I bade my family goodbye, and left the house to the park.

The journey was indeed a long one but finally we arrived Bayelsa, and I took a bus heading to Otuoke. Minutes later we were there, the whole town was filled with students; either rushing to one lecture or the other, and like me, a lot of new intakes arriving from their various location, looking confused and others excited like I was.

“Hello Pete I am at the school gate now," He respond but this time  not in a rush but he was so calm “Oh really, okay stay where you are! am coming out now.” I assumed he was in a class, but hoped I don't get to wait so long.

Indeed words cannot express my excitement, being in the four walls of a university; to finally study my dream course. Ever since I was a kid, English and communication skills was all I wanted to study; when I get to the university, and even though my parents wasn’t in agreement with my decision I still pushed on.

My Father who works in a Drilling company, in Alaska, USA wanted me to be a lawyer, not minding if that was what I wanted. He will always front me as his young Barrister, and I incessantly played along with him, after all; he is almost never around to checkmate me.

My mother was a Pharmacist and a trader, all she wanted was her only child to be a doctor. According to her, that was what she wanted to be; but, her dreams fell apart and now, you can imagine my mother wants me, to live her dream; because, she couldn’t achieve it.

One day, Dad was back from work and he had two weeks to spend with us. We were all in the sitting room watching the Channels News, “Noye one day, you are going to be standing in front of a judge; dressed that way, and I will be here throwing kudos to my daughter, on how you are going to handle a case” mum immediately smiled and stroke my hair staring to my face and blinking her eyes towards my dad “Noye my dear you better not listen to your dad, you will study medicine and that’s it.” That was how this two argued over my destiny that day till I angrily deserted their presence to my room.

As serious as this two was about me studying Law and Medicine, I still was not going to yield to their wishes; as I would call it. its my life not theirs, funny enough, mum owns a superstore in town; where she goes, and stays from morning till night. So, she too, never really had time for me. Not bad because, it gives me the space to achieve my own dreams, and not forced into theirs.

Finally Pete was here, “I have waited almost 30min here, what where you doing na"? he looked at me with a smile to console me I guess “ Am sorry I was in a class, and the lecturer; Mr Robert, wouldn’t stop lecturing, but hey! Am here now, let’s get your stuff over to the house.”

To be Continued...
