How to Share Airtime on MTN
Before you begin, you must set up a Transfer PIN. The default PIN is 0000, which you’ll need to change for security.
Steps to Set Up a Transfer PIN:
- Dial: *321*0000*NewPIN*NewPIN#
- (e.g., *321*0000*1234*1234# to set your PIN to 1234).
Steps to Transfer Airtime:
- Dial: *321*Recipient'sPhoneNumber*Amount*PIN#.
- For example, to send ₦500 to 08061234567, dial *321*08061234567*500*1234#.
Limits and Fees:
- Maximum transfer per transaction: ₦5,000.
- Daily transfer limit: ₦50,000.
There are no additional charges for airtime transfers between MTN users.
How to Share Data on MTN
MTN also enables data sharing through USSD codes, SMS, and the myMTN App.
Via USSD Code:
- Dial *131#.
- Select “Gift Data” from the options.
- Enter the recipient’s phone number and the amount of data to transfer.
Alternatively:
- Dial: *131*Recipient'sPhoneNumber*DataAmount#.
Via SMS:
- Open your messaging app.
- Type: Transfer PhoneNumber DataAmount (e.g., Transfer 08061234567 500MB).
- Send to 131.
- Reply with “Yes” to confirm.
Via the myMTN App:
- Download the app from the Play Store or App Store.
- Log in and navigate to the “Share” or “Gift Data” section.
- Select the recipient and the data amount.
Important Notes
- Data transfer is only possible between MTN customers.
- Daily data transfer limits depend on your subscription plan. Typically, you can transfer up to 1GB daily.
- Ensure sufficient airtime or data balance before initiating any transfer.
