All the good times, all the annoying times, the fun, the secondary school crushes, the days of school mother and school father.

The Joy makes you smile every time that you forget there is a next step after secondary school.

But who cares, “Let me breath please… lol”.

You begin to hear your parents, your friends, your siblings advising you about various universities.

And you’re wowed and in anticipation to just get to the university and be a big boy and a big girl, believe it, once you’re in the university, you’re big.

“How do I choose my school and my course of study?”

The Suggestions.

Every Parent has a dream for their kid, a path they’ll love to see their children take.

This is where the first suggestion will come from.

Your Parent will tell you the university they wish for you to attend and the course they want you to study because they love you and want the best for you.

Your elder siblings will bring their experience into the selection process, they will tell you mistakes they made when writing jamb

They will also tell you how good or bad their universities were, their experience is very important while choosing a course and university of study.

And your friends, they will definitely want you to go to the same university they are going to so that you guys can continue your bond and be all smiley and rosy

Choosing a University

“Can I actually choose right?”

NO!

Do not pressure yourself because there is no right or wrong university, if there was, the wrong schools would not have students.

There is only YOUR university. The one that would fit you, the one you know you’ll excel in, the environment you’ll love and the one that fits both your academic and your social needs.

To know this schools, have a list of all of universities including those suggested by your family, your friends, your teachers and the ones you fancy.

Go to Facebook and read about all the universities on your list, surely, you’re not the first person to want to go to these schools.

On Facebook each university have group chats, group forums for both aspirants and their students.

Ask members of the group questions about the university, ask about the environment, the lecturers, ask about the possibilities of getting accommodation and most of all, ask about the school fees.

This will help you in the selection process.

Choosing a course of study

After selecting the university, you need to be sure of the course you want to study.

Already before SS3, you must have either chosen Science class, Art class or commercial class, and which ever course you want to study must fall within the subjects you wrote for your waec or Neco.

Again, your Parents would want you to study certain courses, which is a good thing, but look at your strengths before deciding.

If you’re considering medicine, ask yourself, am I good at biology? If you want to study Mechanical Engineering, am I good at Physics.

Choose a course that suits your strengths because in the university, these strengths will be heavily tested.

It will be bad if after all the excitement, and preparation, the university of your choice doesn’t admit you.

The feeling alone is, “ugh”, very painful.

You wouldn’t want to be left out while your friends are going to school, therefore, you need to do the needful.

Study very hard.

Do not put your focus on the Jamb cut off or the cut off mark your course requires.

Set your target to be atleast 40 marks more than what your course requires.

If your course reguires a Jamb score of 200, aim for 240, this way you’ll surely gain admission.
