Davido, one of Nigeria's most successful musicians, has become as well-known for his philanthropic efforts as he is for his music. Over the years, he has consistently used his platform and resources to give back to communities across Nigeria, particularly focusing on vulnerable groups like orphaned children.
In 2021, Davido made headlines when he publicly requested donations from friends and fans ahead of his 29th birthday. What started as a lighthearted challenge quickly snowballed, resulting in over ₦200 million being raised. True to his word, Davido topped this amount with an additional ₦50 million from his own funds, and he donated the entire sum to orphanages across Nigeria. This unprecedented act of generosity set the stage for what would become an annual tradition of giving.
In 2022, Davido formalized his charitable activities by establishing the Davido Adeleke Foundation (DAF). The foundation has since become a critical vehicle for his philanthropic work, focusing on improving the lives of children in orphanages. In 2023, DAF distributed ₦237 million to 424 orphanages, benefiting nearly 14,000 children. This commitment has only grown, with Davido announcing another ₦300 million donation to orphanages in 2024 as part of his yearly contribution to the nation.
