Born Akanbi Brett Bamidele on March 23, 1995, in Okitipupa, Ondo State, Cheque is a fast-rising Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter. He grew up in Ondo Town and attended Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), where he studied Chemical Engineering, graduating in 2017. During his time at OAU, Cheque developed a passion for music, drawing inspiration from various rap performances at school events. Despite his academic focus, his love for music eventually led him down a different career path.

Music Career

Cheque’s music journey started in 2015 while still at university. He was originally known as Kyle-B before adopting the name "Cheque" following his frequent use of the phrase "Mic Check" during performances. In 2019, after relocating to Lagos to pursue music full-time, he caught the attention of Phyno, a well-known Nigerian rapper, and got signed to Phyno’s PentHauze Music label. This partnership proved to be pivotal in Cheque’s career, giving him the platform to share his unique blend of Afro-fusion and trap music with a broader audience.

His debut EP, S.O.O.N (Something Out Of Nothing), was released under the Cruel Station label before he joined PentHauze. However, his breakthrough came in 2020 with the release of his second EP, Razor, featuring the hit single "Zoom." The song quickly became a favorite, topping charts and earning millions of streams across various platforms. Cheque's ability to blend Afrobeat with trap elements set him apart from his peers, making him one of the most promising young talents in the Nigerian music industry.

Cheque continued to rise in prominence, collaborating with notable artists such as Olamide, who featured him on the track "Warlords" from his 999 album, and later Phyno, who has been a significant influence and mentor in his career.

Key Achievements and Popular Songs

Some of Cheque’s most popular tracks include "Zoom," "Loco," and "Satisfied," all of which featured on his Razor EP. "Zoom" became an international hit, garnering acclaim from both fans and critics for its catchy melody and introspective lyrics. The success of this single solidified Cheque’s place in the industry, and he soon gained recognition from big names such as Davido and Olamide.

In 2021, Cheque released his debut studio album, Bravo, which included collaborations with Fireboy DML and Ayra Starr. This project further demonstrated his versatility, blending elements of Afrobeat, trap, and R&B to create a unique sound that appeals to a global audience.
