Getting ready for NYSC? Here are 10 facts you need to know before heading to camp.

    1. 3-week camping

You will be camping for 3 weeks and the orientation camp can be exciting, intense and overwhelming.

    2. Arrive Early

Camp gates usually open a day before the official start. If you want a good bed space or mattress, arrive early. Trust me, you don't want to be stuck with the leftovers.

    3. Registration is Serious Business

You'll go through several queues to register. Be patient, carry multiple passport photos, copies of documents and stationery. Find your platoon and collect your kits(uniform, white polo/shorts and boots).

    4. Morning Drills start very Early

You'll be woken up as early as 3:30AM(4:30 AM for some camps)for morning drills. If you're not a morning person, well... get ready to become one. The bugle doesn't snooze.

    5. The Uniform might not Fit

Expect your khaki to come in random sizes. Tailors on camp can help with adjustments--for a fee.

    6. Mami Market is Your Lifesaver

Mami market is like your camp mall--food, drinks, charging stations and even laundry.  But prices are often higher than normal, so budget wisely.

    7. Charging can be Stressful

There are few charging points and they're mostly in Mami Market. A power bank is gold. Better yet, bring two.

    8. Social Activities are Plenty

There'll be talent shows, beauty contests and inter-platoon competitions. Join in---its a great way to make friends and enjoy camp life.

    9. Soldiers Take Discipline Seriously

Respect the rules. Don't walk on parade grounds carelessly or ignore commands. Some soldiers are chill, some are strict---but all of them deserve your respect.

    10. It's a Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

Despite the stress, you'll make unforgettable memories. Some even meet their future partners in camp. Stay safe, stay open-minded and enjoy the ride.

Have you been to NYSC Camp before? If yes, what was your most unforgettable moment?.
